But first, what is franchising?

Starting your own business is an exciting venture, but it also comes with risk and the challenge of building everything from the ground up. For many aspiring entrepreneurs, franchising offers a strategic path to business ownership, and one that balances independence with a proven framework for success. Franchises come with a lower risk of failiure, hence why banks are more likely to lend money to franchisees than new start ups.

What are the benefits of franchising?

  • A proven business model
  • Brand recognition and trust
  • Comprehensive training and support
  • Easier access to financing
  • Lower risk of failiure
  • Economies of scale
  • A faster path to growth!

A Proven Business Model

One of the biggest challenges for a new business owner is figuring out what works and what doesn’t. When starting from scratch, you have to experiment with perfecting your service or product, processes, marketing strategy, and operational systems, which all comes with expense and a great deal of time!

Franchising eliminates much of that uncertainty. Franchises come with established business models that have been tested and refined over time. The Franchisor (the person who created the original business), has done the trial and error and has collated the best best ways of working, and they share those processes and best practice with their franchisees. This means you’re stepping into a system that’s already shown consistent results.

With newer franchises, you can have more scope to also shape the model with your feedback and ideas. This is less likely with established franchises.

Brand Recognition

Building a reputation and customer base for a new business can take years. With franchising, you start with an existing brand identity that already has an element of recognition and credibility. If your Franchisor has won awards and achieved useful accolades, like us, even better!

Customers are more likely to trust a business they already know of, which gives franchisees a competitive edge over unknown startups.

Comprehensive Training and Support

Launching a business from scratch means figuring things out on your own, or paying for external consultants and training. With franchising, you are given in-depth training, strong onboarding and ongoing business support. You have a business support manager to bounce ideas off and this  person will share best practice with you from within the network.

This includes:

  • Initial training on operations, marketing, recruitment, systems and finance
  • Ongoing guidance from the franchisor in the form of regular calls and meetings. At Rise Life, we run quarterly face to face meetings with our franchisees, we host online mid-quarter meetings and have a bespoke support call schedule for each franchisee, dependent on need.
  • Access to an experienced network of franchisees  – these people are doing the same as you and will have a lot to share in terms of lessons learnt and what works well. Your fellow franchisees are excellent peers.

This level of support significantly reduces the steep learning curve faced by independent business owners.

Quote from Jos Sharp: finalist for the Bfa HSBC Dynamic Duo Award, “Launching our franchise has been a real learning curve, but the support from Rise and the other franchisees has made all the difference. We’re proud to be building something that reflects our values while making a meaningful impact in our community.”

Easier Access to Financing

Banks and lenders are often more willing to finance a franchise than a brand-new independent business. This is because franchises are viewed as lower-risk investments due to their proven track records and established systems.

Lower Risk of Failure

Statistics show that franchises tend to have higher survival rates compared to independent startups.

Marketing Power and Economies of Scale

Franchisees benefit from national marketing campaigns, PR support and materials created by the Franchisor. Franchises leverage bulk purchasing power for supplies and equipment, reducing costs compared to what a standalone business would pay.

Faster Path to Growth

Because of the established systems, brand recognition, and built-in customer trust, franchises often experience faster ramp-up times. Rather than spending years building awareness and refining processes, franchisees can focus on scaling and maximising profitability quickly.
