Rise Life St Albans

At Rise Life, we are proud of the incredible work our franchisees do in their communities. Today, we’re shining a spotlight on Adam Sharp, co-owner of Rise Life St Albans (alongside his mum, Jos Sharp), who has not only built a thriving franchise but has also achieved remarkable personal success over the past year.

Adam’s journey in to business ownership

Adam’s journey into sports and business has been defined by resilience and determination. After exploring a career in sports coaching, Adam quickly discovered there were very few opportunities for people with disabilities to coach in able-bodied clubs.

That’s when Adam and Jos discovered franchising with Rise Life. They realised they could build a business where they decide what’s possible. Today, they’ve grown their franchise into a thriving local hub for inclusive seated sports—making seated sports accessible to everyone.

Their commitment to inclusion extends to their team. Adam and Jos have hired incredible staff, including a young woman with a hearing impairment—creating opportunities for others who may face similar barriers in traditional employment.

Shining on the National Stage: Paralympic Table Tennis

Adam is not only a passionate business owner—he’s also a Paralympic table tennis player representing Great Britain. His talent and dedication have earned him national recognition twice in the last year:

November 2024 – Silver Medal, British Para Table Tennis National Championships
July 2025 – Bronze Medal, British Para Table Tennis National Championships, Class 7 Finals

These achievements highlight his skill, perseverance, and commitment to excellence—qualities he brings to every aspect of his work and life.

Giving Back: Coaching Parkinson’s Table Tennis

Adam’s passion for inclusion extends well beyond his own training. In 2023, he began volunteering to coach Parkinson’s table tennis sessions at the Barnet Table Tennis Centre.

Working with players from novices to experienced athletes—including wheelchair users—Adam has transformed the sessions by introducing new coaching techniques. His creative approach, such as using larger balls for beginners, has made the sport more accessible and enjoyable for all participants.

In recognition of his dedication and impact, Adam received the “Most Inspirational Story” Award at the Pride of Table Tennis Awards in March 2025.

This month, Jos and Adam have been shortlisted as finalists in the prestigious “Dynamic Duo” category at the 2025 BFA HSBC UK British Franchise Awards.

This recognition speaks volumes about the pair’s impact, teamwork, and dedication. To be shortlisted is a huge achievement in itself and the winners will be announced in November! Watch this space!

Making a Difference in St Albans and Beyond

Rise Life St Albans seated sports across Hatfield and St Albans, from care homes, day centres, hospices, hospitals, and schools—bringing joy, movement, and connection to hundreds of people in their community every week.

Whether it’s leading a franchise team, competing for medals, or volunteering to make sport more inclusive, Adam continues to inspire everyone around him. We are eagerly anticipating the next few years and where they take him!
