Rise Essex are excited to have started to deliver their adapted seated sports programme throughout North East Essex. These sessions are being enjoyed by the participants throughout the Colchester and Tendring districts.
Melvyn saw a Rise session in Wales in a care home and saw how much fun the participants were having and the physical and psychological benefits these sessions bring. It was evident there was a real synergy between his care business and what Rise do. A keen sportsman himself, he loved the idea that the sports had been adapted and were completely inclusive and could be enjoyed by anyone.
He is joined by Krissy Rice, the Operations Manager and Owen Thom as the Business Development Officer. Owen has a background in mentoring and delivering sports sessions to various schools and Institutions throughout Essex. Owen has been delivering the adapted sports sessions to Care Homes and Community centres in the Colchester and Tendring areas for nearly a year. Now the team plan to introduce Rise sessions in additional areas in Essex.
Our Activity Leads are at the heart of what we do – they deliver fantastic Rise sessions across Essex, bringing the joy of sports to so many people. Find out more about the day in the life of a Rise Activity Lead here…

I happened to see a Rise session when visiting a friend and thought what an amazing idea. As a keen sportsman, I am really excited that we are enabling people with disabilities to participate in their favourite sports. We have had a lot of great feedback and are looking forward to involving more people in our inclusive sports programme.
Krissy Rice
Operations Manager
My name is Krissy, and I am the Operations Director at Rise Life Essex. I’ve spent my career as a passionate leader in the community Health and Social Care Sector. I supported the start-up of Rise to help close the gap in inclusive sport. Rise Life Essex is interactive, engaging, and above all fun.
Zoe Usedon
Community Development Officer
I’m Zoe, I joined Rise after working in sports management. My favourite part of being a Community Development Officer is bringing something completely new to the community, to delivering the sessions with each care home. The joy you receive from the smiles on their faces is very rewarding. I’ve always had a interest in sports and coming up with different games, Rise is perfect for that!
Laura Holmes
Community Development Officer
My name is Laura, I joined Rise following an extensive time in customer service within a Supermarket chain. My favourite part of being a Community Development Officer is the variety of settings we work in. Every location is different, along with the characters in each setting. I love seeing how competitive the residents become, the smiles and laughter the activities generate.
Grace Taylor
Office Manager
I’m mainly behind-the-scenes at Rise Seated Sports — officially the Office Manager, but unofficially the go-to problem solver, planner, and spreadsheet creator! I keep the gears turning so our team can focus on doing what we do best: creating incredible adaptive sports experiences that empower and inspire.
